Sacked teachers to storm Nabanna on April 21 in joint protest over job losses
Union Home Minister Amit Shah's scheduled visit to West Bengal on March 29-30 has been postponed due to the upcoming Eid celebrations. State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar confirmed the postponement on Saturday, stating that Shah was originally set to arrive in Kolkata on March 29 and participate in key organizational meetings the following day. He added that the new dates would be announced once finalized.
This is the second time that Shah’s Bengal visit has been canceled. His previous visit, planned for January 29, was also postponed. At that time, he was scheduled to address a public rally in Purba Medinipur and review BJP’s preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has been focusing on strengthening its presence in Bengal, where it is targeting significant electoral gains.
Meanwhile, Shah held a meeting in New Delhi with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The Chief Minister urged the Union Home Minister to release financial assistance for damages caused by the monsoon disaster. He highlighted the extensive destruction of infrastructure, including drinking water facilities, irrigation projects, roads, and bridges. Sukhu stated that the state government had requested central aid but had not yet received the required funds.
During the meeting, Sukhu informed Shah that the state had been utilizing its own resources for relief and rehabilitation. He stressed the need for immediate central assistance to accelerate recovery efforts. Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Onkar Chand Sharma was also present during the discussions. Shah assured that the matter would be addressed, and the central government would provide necessary support.
